How I Work with ClientsHseadig 1

My background is in psychodynamic psychotherapy. This type of therapy aims to help clients to clarify what is going on in their present situation/relationships. Some ways to do this might involve making connections with experiences and relationships in your past so that you can begin to understand what challenges and motivates you. Alongside this, psychodynamic therapy uses the relationship that develops between us as therapist and client to clarify and explore what happens in your relationships outside the therapy. Working in this way can help you to really connect with your true feelings and desires, to challenge old beliefs and ways of being that no longer serve you and to develop the confidence to start to make lasting changes in your life.
 
This can be an emotional journey and is one that is best undertaken with someone that you can trust and who is open to and willing to engage with the wide range of emotions that we, as human beings, are capable of feeling. This process also takes time and is, in my opinion, one of the most powerful investments a person can make in their lives.
 
It may be however, that you have a specific issue that you would like to address. We can work together short term to address those specific issues without delving too far into the past. Together we can find strategies that work to help you manage the particular challenges that you face. We might achieve this by thinking together about manageable change, role-playing and trying out new behaviours between sessions.
 
In our first session, regardless of our approach, we will talk about what has brought you to therapy and a brief exploration of your history and background. All of this is confidential and you will only be asked to share what feels comfortable for you. If you feel that you would like to proceed , we will discuss appointment times, payment of fees (usually £40 per session) and, if the work is short term, the scope and the focus of our work together.
 
If we do decide to work together, sessions will be weekly at a regular agreed time and will last 50 minutes.
